Extra! Extra! Global community invited. SCADstyle is not just for students; all events are free and open to the public. Next week, April 12-16, SCAD’s Savannah, Atlanta and Hong Kong campuses will host more than 30 big names in design as honored guests, with one stipulation. They must allow their audiences to pick their minds on their idea of the one overarching theme: style.

The term style means many different things depending on whom you ask, as shown in SCADstyle videos from 2014 and other previous years. On the Savannah campus, attendees will kick off SCADstyle week with a lecture from designer Johannes Torpe who racks up a variety of titles from creative director of Bang + Olufsen to CEO of his eponymous global design firm with offices in Copenhagen, Beijing, New York City and Padova, Italy.

Torpe will speak on his intuitive design practice at the Trustees Theater on Sunday, April, 12 at 2:30 p.m.

Continuing the SCAD Savannah style conversation in an event President Paula Wallace said is “not to be missed” in a recent Twitter post, fashion designer Joseph Altuzarra will speak at the SCAD Museum of Art on Monday, April 13, at 2:30 p.m. In his lecture, “Fiercely Feminine,” he will deconstruct the idea of the power suit in a conversation with Style.com Executive Editor Nicole Phelps.

This year’s topics include the practice of design, trends in accessories, cultivating successful women’s fashion brands, the multimillion-dollar denim industry, biker bohemia, self-promotion and marketing and alternative approaches to architecture.

“I am looking forward to a SCADstyle week filled with amazing speakers, incredible topics relevant to all of our students, and great insights into the world of design,” said Michael Fink, dean of the school of fashion in an email.

This year’s event even includes a reading and book signing with Dana Thomas, author of “Gods and Kings: the Rise and Fall of Alexander McQueen and John Galliano.” This event will be held at SCAD Museum of Art on Thursday, April 16, at 2:30 p.m. and is sure to appeal to SCAD Writing students as well as those interested in fashion design and marketing.

SCAD Atlanta will host fashion designer Amy Smilovic, Warby Parker cofounder Neil Blumenthal, fashion designer Steve Alan and more. In Hong Kong, students and community members can look forward to a workshop with designer Alexander Wong as well as a discussion on maximizing creative resources.

Whether you’re a SCAD Student or community member, come out and join SCAD’s global celebration of style and design. Check here for a full list of SCADstyle 2015 honored guests and events.
