News brief: Audience wardrobes expected to flashback at ‘Hair’

On May 13, SCAD Performing Arts is teaming up with WTOC-TV for a ’60s-inspired costume contest. The contest will be held in conjunction with the 8 p.m. performance of “Hair: The American Tribal Love Rock Musical” at the Lucas Theatre.

Audience members are encouraged to dress “groovy” and “psychedelic” for a chance to win a Shop SCAD gift bag and two subscriptions to SCAD’s 2012 performing arts season. WTOC co-anchors Mike Cihla and Jennifer Serda will be hosting the competition, but audience applause will decide the winner.

“Hair” is the classic musical about the hippie counter-culture, the sexual revolution and the anti-Vietnam war peace movement of the late 1960s. It includes well known hits like “Aquarius,” “Let the Sun Shine In,” “Good Morning, Starshine” and “Easy to be Hard.”

Tickets are $20 for general admission; $15 for seniors, military and students; $5 with a valid SCAD ID; and free with valid SCAD ID on May 12 only. Tickets may be purchased in person at the Savannah Box Office window located at the Trustees Theater by calling (912) 525-5050, logging onto www.tickets.scadboxoffice.com, or at the Lucas Theatre one hour prior to a performance.
