The Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD), Department of Natural Resources Wildlife Division, and Environmental Protection Agency have responded to a fish die-off along the Ogeechee River. The die-off is in Screven and Bulloch counties but could affect Bryan, Chatham and Effingham counties.
The first three days of testing did not identify the cause of the kill. More comprehensive sampling began the morning of May 22 and will conclude May 25. Until the cause of death is determined, Georgia residents are advised to avoid swimming in or consuming fish from the Ogeechee River in Bryan, Chatham, Effingham and Screven counties.
