News brief: Pump pedals with city officials on Bike to Work Day

City of Savannah leaders will join residents and members of the Savannah Bicycle Campaign in a group ride commemorating National Bike to Work Day on May 20.

The group commute will depart from the Habersham Village Shopping Center at 7:30 a.m. It will finish in Ellis Square, where coffee and refreshments will be available from 7:30 to 9 a.m. In Ellis Square, commuters will also have the opportunity to learn about efforts to make Savannah more bicycle friendly in a “State of Cycling in Savannah” update from City officials.

National Bike to Work Day is an annual event that encourages commuters to try cycling to work instead of driving. By riding in a group, newer cyclists feel safer and see how easy commuter cycling can be. The day is celebrated by cities across the country as part of the League of American Bicyclists National Bike Month.
