News brief: "Today in Georgia History" launches on TV and Radio

On Aug. 31, the Georgia Historical Society (GHS) and Georgia Public Broadcasting (GPB) announced the launch of “Today in Georgia History,” a new educational program focusing on significant people and events associated with a particular day in Georgia history. As of Sept. 1, episodes are now aired daily on GPB television and radio.

Mon. – Fri. at 8:57 p.m.
Sat. at 12:57 p.m. and 6:57 p.m.
Sun. at 6:57 p.m. and 8:57 p.m.

GPB Radio
Mon. – Fri. 8:19 a.m. and 1:57 p.m.
Sat. and Sun. at 9:18 a.m. and 5:18 p.m.

Short segments are also available online on the ‘Today in Georgia History” website, www.todayingeorgiahistory.org. This is an interactive website that allows users to access streaming audio and video of episodes as well as resources for both students and teachers.

“Today in Georgia History” is a joint collaboration between GHS and GPB. GHS performs historical research and selects events to profile in each segment; creates each script and provides images; creates education materials and hosts the program with its senior historian Dr. Stan Deaton. GPB performs all production and post-production activities including recording, editing and producing each segment for broadcast on television and radio.
