News brief: Savannah police release Sept. radar hot spots

The Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department (SCMPD) released the following radar hot spots for the month of September. On these days, traffic officers will be monitoring the listed hot spot zones to discourage speeding.

SCMPD reminds drivers that the speed limit in school zones is 25 miles per hour with a zero tolerance policy, meaning one mile per hour over the speed limit will bring a citation.

“We stress that ‘Twenty is Plenty’ in school zones,” said Lt. Gregory Mitchell, supervisor of the SCMPD traffic department. “We are dealing with high concentrations of young people who are not always focused on safety, parents trying to get students to schools and on to work [and] school buses and citizens driving through the zones. Our enforcement efforts are to keep our students and crossing guards safe.”
