News briefs for April 5: Savannah City Manager resigns

The men’s lacrosse team extended their winning streak to seven in a row March 31, when the Bees rallied in the second half to a 10-9 victory over Oberlin College.  The team ranks ninth in the Prodigy MCLA Division II Top 25.

City Manager Michael Brown submitted his resignation on Friday, ending a 15-year run as head of Savannah’s city administration to accept the position of county manager for Arlington, Va. Brown began his career with the city in 1980 as an assistant to then-city manager, A.A. Mendonsa. Mayor Otis Johnson and the City Council have not announced yet plans for finding a successor.

Beth Reiter, longtime director of historic preservation for the Savannah-Chatham County Metropolitan Planning Commission, will retire this this month.
