On Friday, May 6, students all over Savannah congregated to Tybee Island where the annual SCAD Sand Arts Festival 2022 was held. When I walked down the pier stairs and onto the sand, I was met with hundreds of students sculpting sandcastles and bobbing their heads to a remix of “Party in the USA” by Miley Cyrus. The energy was infectious.
What made this festival even more exciting than the atmosphere were the 17 cash awards that were up for grabs. Some of these included Best Sandcastle, Best Sandrelief, SCAD Spirit Award, SCAD Love Award, SCAD Student Group award, etc. Not only were students having a blast, they were also focused on the craftsmanship of their sculptures. There’s nothing like a little friendly sandcastle competition.
