SCAD presents Pages of Destiny film with Savannah Arts Academy Orchestra

Written by Leila Scott

SCAD will host The Pages of Destiny film with the company of The Savannah Arts Academy Orchestra on Wednesday, March 6. The student created event will be hosted at Trustees Theatre.

The one-night event will live feature an original score performed by the orchestra and will be the first of its kind from any university. Originated in Savannah, the film includes over 400 student artists from around the world including Savannah College of Art and Design, The University of Siena Italy, The Savannah Arts Academy and numerous community sponsors. The director, Nico Rinciari, and producer, Emily Dillard, are students currently enrolled at SCAD.

Rinciari once struggled with deciding on whether to leave home and follow his dream or to stay. Producer Emily Dillard says in the video, A Look into The Pages of Destiny, “Nico has a really wonderful, interesting past growing up in Italy. With working with him, with working with the team, we are able to tell that story and go through that journey of not only personal progression but a progression built by a very wide audience.” Rinciari composed, directed and composed pieces for the film and is very proud with the outcome.

Dylan Hearn worked as co-producer and sound designer. “The idea of home is very open to a lot of interpretations, and so the idea with trying to come up with some sort of concrete representation of home in The Pages of Destiny was an extreme challenge,” Hearn says in the video. They later decided to represent that idea in a bookstore. Actors Bruce Hearn and Matteo Palumbo will also be featured in the film.

The student lead film took one year in order to create the original script, and design and build the 360 set. The set includes walls, floors, windows that were all handmade from the students. They then went on to write and compose the score for the live orchestra to record. They were able to raise over 11k on Kickstarter. Collaboration and the student’s passion for this project were key in the creation of this successful film.

Beginning at five, a pre-event dinner will be hosted at Savannah’s local restaurant Zunzi’s Takeout and Catering. This meet and greet will feature some of the artists who worked on The Pages of Destiny film and will run until seven p.m. The momentous film will follow and begin at eight p.m. at the Trustee’s Theatre. By the theatre is Leopold’s Ice Cream which was formerly owned by Hollywood producer Stratton Leopold. They will be creating a special sundae in honor of the short film and the event.

Tickets will be available online or in person at the Savannah Box Office. They will be free to SCAD card holders. For non-SCAD student tickets will be $5; seniors and military. For the general public they will be $8. To keep up with news from the crew, follow their Instagram and Facebook @Pagesofdestinyfilm. For more information visit https://pagesofdestinyfilm.co/
