SCAD Savannah celebrated the Class of 2017 with its annual commencement ceremony Saturday, June 3 at the Savannah Civic Center.
The Presidential Conferment of Degrees ceremony began at 9 a.m. followed by two degree presentation ceremonies in the afternoon. Both commencement ceremonies were live streamed by the University.
SCAD President and Founder Paula Wallace addressed the graduates in a special president’s message, followed by a rousing rendition of SCAD’s Alma Mater, “Unique, United,” led by 2016 Performing Arts B.F.A. alumnus Christian Magby.
Ceremony highlights included remarks delivered by 2010 Fashion B.F.A. alumni Jaime Austin Barker and speeches from Valedictorian Faten AlMukhtar and Excelsus Laureate Wendy Eduarte. Wallace presented an honorary degree to Michael Buzzard, a design manager at Google.
Actor John Malkovich delivered the commencement address, and singer Andra Day performed her 2015 hit “Rise Up” during the recessional.
