Men’s Swim Team:

The Men’s Swim Team traveled to Charleston, S.C. to face a tough College of Charleston swim team.  The Bees finished 1st or 2nd in nine of the 16 events against the Cougars, but could only manage five 1st place finishes. Though battling hard, the Bees were only able to muster 95 points compared to 164 for the winning Cougars.

Of the five 1st place finishes, SCAD’s Marc Fleischmann contributed two of the wins. Fleischmann won two individual events in the 100 Meter Breaststroke (1:08.01) and the 200 Meter Breaststroke (2:3107).  He also was a part of two relay teams (200M Medley Relay and 400M Freestyle Relay) that finished second.

Two other individuals won events for the Bees. Fourth-year swimmer, Steven Edgar, won the 100M Butterfly (1:01.05) and second-year Bradley Green won the 200M Individual Medley (2:19.12).  The final 1st place was won by a relay team of Ryan Sloat, Mark Shvartsman, Edgar, and David Scott in the 400M Freestyle Relay (4:00.07).  Elliott Hutchison and John LaPorta contributed a couple of 2nd place finishes in the 200M Individual Medley and the 100M Butterfly, but it was not enough to narrow the differential with the College of Charleston.

Women’s Swim Team:

The Women’s Swim Team traveled to Charleston, S.C. to face the College of Charleston and Campbell University swim teams. It was a tough day for the Lady Bees who lost both dual meets (73-216 to Charleston and 82-185 to Campbell).

Only Caroline Lepesant was able to win an event. She continued her good run since being awarded the Blue Mountain Conference’s Player of the Week honor last week by winning two events in Charleston. Lepesant finished 1st in both the 400M Freestyle with a time of 4:30.21.  She also won the 800M Freestyle with a time of 9:08.18.

Hannah Legg was the only other SCAD swimmer to finish as high as 3rd place with finishes of 1:07.72 in the 100M Backstroke and a 2:26.43 finish in the 200M Individual Medley. Her time in the IM was only a fraction of a second (.60) behind the 2nd place finisher.

SCAD next travels to Atlanta on January 19 to take on Emory University at 1 p.m.  The Bees next home meet will be against Darton College and Limestone College on January 26.  The home meet begins at 1 p.m. at the Chatham County Aquatic Center. Come out and support your SCAD Bees.
