Thursday, January 17th 2013

Bassment Thursday presented by Savannah Party Starters
Taco Abajo, 217 ½ West Broughton Street
9 p.m. – 2:30 a.m.
18 and up, no cover charge

Savannah’s only eighteen-and-up venue will feature dance music until the bars close starting with DJ Ian Grover and his Top 40 dance mix. At 10:15 p.m. Danny Shapiro (aka DJ SlaK) will take over with electro house and moombahton. From 11:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. Search & Escape will tag-team a Nu Skool and Funky Breaks set. Bassment Thursday will wrap up with ITSBANK5 and Skrubz splitting a trap/hiphop/dubset set.

The Sketchbook Show
Ashmore Gallery, 412 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard
6 p.m. – 9 p.m.

The Sketchbook Show is back again with the sketchbook pages of 100 artists from all across Savannah and the world. The after show will begin at The Sparetime around 10 p.m. To view featured artists’ work, visit the event’s Facebook page (The Sketchbook Show).

Lawrence of Arabia
Lucas Theatre, 32 Abercorn Street
Begins at 7 p.m. with a 227-minute running time and 15-minute intermission
$8 general admission, $5 for students

Lucas Theatre brings us another classic with the 50th anniversary, digitally remastered director’s cut restoration of 1962’s “Lawrence of Arabia.” Directed by David Lean, the film follows T.E. Lawrence’s based on true-life adventures as a British officer in the Middle East. The film was shot across three countries and stars Peter O’Toole, Omar Sharif, Alec Guinness, Anthony Quinn, Jack Hawkins, Jose Ferrer and Claude Rains. Samt Senit Zine Launch Party
Desotorow Gallery and Starland Dairy, 2427 De Soto Avenue
6 p.m. — 9 p.m.

Samt Senit celebrates the release of their first edition with an art exhibit and concert featuring work from over twenty artists. Bands Omingnome, Laughing Man, Victory Road, The Innovators, and Savannah stars Word of Mouth will play adjacent to the exhibition at Desotorow in Starland Dairy. Free food will be catered by Will’s Joca’s Pentagram Bakery. Music will be accompanied by hula hooping and poi performers. Samt Senit merch, including stickers, t-shirts, and posters will be available for sale.

The Thru-Project Benefit Concert and Art Auction
The Sparetime, 36 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard
Auction opens at 6 p.m. with bands starting at 9 p.m.

The Thru-Project is seeking to create a photographic book to support conservation of the 2,181-mile Appalachian Trail. The benefit will fund the group’s hike through the trail and the cost of book publishing. Photographer Joshua Niven’s work will be auctioned along with the sale of loose images for a set price. The auction will be accompanied with music from Savannah bands Hot Plate and Wet Socks as well as North Carolina musicians Yardwork, One Another, and Hungry Girl.
