Scent your nails for summer

By Augusta Statz

Scented nail polish is something that I had never heard of before, but I stumbled upon bottles of this fantastic creation while shopping in Forever 21. Forever 21 isn’t the only brand that makes scented nail polish, Revlon and Claire’s also do, but it’s the first brand I’d ever seen do it.

The scents that I saw in the store were “Lemon,” which was a bright yellow color; “Passion Fruit,” which was dark purple and glittery; and “Cucumber Melon”, which was a light, minty-green color, and is the one that I purchased for only $2.80. I looked at Forever 21’s website and found that some other scents the store has are “Lime,” “Strawberry” and “Mango.” Even if you can’t find these scents in the store, they can still be ordered online.

I was skeptical of the polish at first, but figured that it was worth a try. It does not say on the bottle how long the scent is supposed to last, and it is hard to smell the scent in the bottle. Once it was on my nails, though, I could smell a light scent of “Cucumber Melon.” The scent was not overpowering like perfume, but was still noticeable. The scent lasted for five days on my nails. I have had it on for a week now, and the scent is completely gone, but most of the color is still there. Other than a few minor chips, my nails are still intact. Although the scent only lasted for five days, this nail polish far exceeded my expectations. I had a fun five days of asking people to smell my nails. It seems like an odd request at first, but everyone I asked noticed the scent and then understood why I had asked them to do such a silly thing.

I have no idea how the polish is scented. I looked up ways to do it yourself and only found that people were adding a few drops of perfume to the topcoat of their polish. I’m not sure if that’s how Forever 21, Revlon or Claire’s do it, but I would prefer to buy a bottle of already scented nail polish than try to do it myself. For only $2.80, you too can have fun, scented nails.
