News brief: Police investigating connection between shoot-out and car fire

Around 4 p.m. on June 15, officers responded to a call about shots being fired in the 1200 block of E. 70th Street. When they arrived, all they found were shell casings. A witness told police that they saw two vehicles on the street when the gunfire erupted, but both quickly sped off. The suspect vehicle was believed to be a gold or yellow PT Cruiser.

Shortly after, a black Tahoe covered in bullet holes pulled into the Memorial University Medical Center. Four of the five car occupants were suffering from various injuries. Violent Crimes and Forensics responded.

Later in the evening, Garden City officers patrolling along Highway 80 observed smoke coming from around Old Louisville Road. Checking into it, they found a vehicle on fire. The vehicle matched the description of the suspect vehicle. Violent Crimes detectives responded to the scene and were able to confirm that the vehicle was the suspect involved in the shooting. This is an ongoing investigation.
