What are students listening to?

We’ve all seen students roaming the sidewalks near academic buildings, not a care in the world. Most of the time, they’re listening to music. We’ve all done it. Sometimes you’re waiting for a SCAD bus, or just need company for the walk home. The music people listen to, whether they’re our friends or not, says so much about them. It’s why couples make playlists for each other, or why road trips are best spent listening instead of talking.

So, what are students listening to? We’re listening to doom metal, pop-rock, even folk punk. Jack Rourke, a fourth-year film and television major, said he’s been listening to “power pop because it helps me get through the day.” Miguel Hallare, a fourth-year film and television major with a photography minor, said he has been listening to “Eyehategod, because my life is a mess and I’m seeing them on the 26.”

“I’ve been listening to IDK’s new album USEE4YOURSELF a lot,” and “Rainbow Kitten Surprise is always a go-to,” said Cameron Fazio, a fourth-year writing major. These days, he’s listening to a lot of “upbeat rap and chill alternative rock.” Alternative rock was another genre that several people mentioned being in their playlists. Few students are listening to podcasts, aside from news and politics, although no narrative-driven podcasts were mentioned. Fazio went on to say that “TV On the Radio has been getting a lot of my attention lately.” As far as podcasts go, he tends to stick to news-related podcasts. “I enjoy listening to Post Reports and The Journal on long drives.”
