SCAD Majors as Halloween Costumes

No city does Halloween quite like Savannah. In a town crawling with tourists and ghosts, SCAD students still manage to outdo everyone else. Yet sometimes it can be hard to come up with Halloween costumes, knowing there are such high stakes. To get some inspiration and jump-start the Halloween mood, here is your Halloween costume based on your SCAD major.

Film: The Scooby-Doo Gang
Film students haunt every corner of SCAD and are rarely found without one another, just like the Scooby-Doo gang. Whether they are searching for new ideas like clues or creating the greatest plot-twist of all time, film majors are the epitome of this iconic group costume.

Fashion Design: Monster High Dolls
Walking from Turner House to Herdstand for an 8 a.m. in heels is something only a Monster High girl, or a fashion design major, could pull off. With Draculaura’s hot pink outfit and Clawdeen’s shape-shifting attitude, SCAD fashion majors will blend right in. Plus, it’s guaranteed they could make this fabulous outfit with things already in their closet.

Jewelry Design: A Treasure Chest
Pirate costumes have been done for ages, but what about another piece of the story, the treasure chest? Jewelry design majors are perfect for this costume, whether they prefer gold or silver, and can pile on their own jewelry to showcase their art. The more shine, the better.

Interior Design: The Sims
Interior design is creating a dream space, and The Sims is creating a dream house and life. A Sims costume also allows for creativity, since almost any clothes can work as long as the green diamond emblem is there.

Dramatic Writing: Twilight
Twilight is such a versatile costume, but we expect to see the “skin of a killer,” whether it’s full-on bedazzling or body glitter. Writers either hate or love Twilight, but either way, they’re always talking about it.

Visual Effects: Vampires
No one talks about the VFX majors, so the choice of one of the most iconic monsters as their Halloween costume may seem odd, except for the fact that vampires never sleep. From juggling creative work, coloring, animating and 3D modeling, VFX majors do it all, except sleep.

Animation: K-Pop Demon Hunters
For a kids’ movie, the Netflix hit K-Pop Demon Hunters has captured SCAD students’ hearts, especially the animation majors. From booking buses to Atlanta to see some of the animators, to endlessly discussing the film, animation majors cannot stop talking about it, not even for Halloween.

Painting: Bob Ross
Bob Ross has become a more popular Halloween costume in recent years, but imagine how cool it would be for an actual artist to start painting “happy little trees” at a party. Painting majors already have most things for the costume, unless an afro is needed. And even if the costume gets messed up, it’s just a “happy little accident.”

Equestrian Studies: Ghost
No one outside of SCAD knows that equestrian studies is even a major. The stables are far from campus, their schedules rarely align with other majors, and no one ever sees them. All combined, equestrian majors are literally the campus ghosts. For a unique spin, they could even go as the Headless Horseman.

Applied AI: Frankenstein
While high schoolers and college students alike praise AI, nearly every art student dreads and argues when a professor requests they use artificial intelligence. Everyone is upset by the creation of applied AI and, in general, misunderstands its existence, just like Frankenstein.
