Cross Country sweeps Division II Awards after Charleston Classic meet

By Mike Walker

SCAD Savannah’s Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams traveled to nearby Charleston, South Carolina this Saturday to compete against some of the region’s best teams and brought home Division II (Green Division) first-place awards for both the men and women. Both teams accomplished this honor with total scores of fifteen, putting our men and women at the very top of their competition.

SCAD freshman Bernhard Obrecht placed first of the SCAD men in the 8K with an impressive 27:39 and an overall finish of 16 out of 52 runners while Max Groff came in 18th with a time of 27:46. Freshmen Myles Baynard (28:01) and Sean Gore (29:31) finished in 23nd and 34rd while freshman Caleb Johnson (30:0) finished in 38th, providing an encouraging showing for some of the newest SCAD runners.

With the ladies, Lemi Wutz placed with a time of 19:40 in the women’s 5K while Hannah Sharp took 21st with a time of 20:20 and Jessy Scarpone finished in 26th (20:40). Courtney Pansza and Diana Gorin finished in 31st and 32nd with times of 20:54 and 20:55, respectively.

This impressive performance by our talented artist-athletes at the Charleston Classic sets the Bees up for hopefully an even greater showing at the University of South Carolina, Beaufort’s Sand Shark Invitational Meet on October 20th in nearby Hardeeville, South Carolina.
