Foxy Hosts Vinyl Appreciation

On Thursday, Jan. 20, from 7-10 p.m., Foxy Loxy Cafe welcomed Graveface Records and Curiosities, a local music store, and introduced Foxy’s clientele to a night of vinyl music in the courtyard.

“We just kind of bring some stuff to appeal to the Vinyl Appreciation crowd, some stuff for the serious vinyl lovers,” said Ian Mccarthy, one of the Graveface’s employees present at the event.

Guests shared the stories behind the vinyls they chose.

Ernie Hollingsworth

Aurora – Warrior

“So you want to hear the story? We were flying back from Denver on one of those fancy airplanes that have a screen in front—they have movies—I was listening to my little iPod. And people in front of me were watching videos and doing things! Man, I’ll do that too and they have music! So I picked out the music and unfortunately, this was about two-thirds of the way back, but I only got to play three albums, and they were just great! So this is one of those.”

Daniel Arias

Sam Cooke

“So the reason I like Sam Cooke, and I could say that I love Sam Cooke, it’s his voice! It’s very soulful, really brings out a lot of emotions. Brings me back to moments in my past, I remember listening to some of his songs.

So it’s very much like listening and feeling the memories that I had before. It’s just a great music to dance to, to move to, and just enjoy. It’s very relaxing.”

Laron Dunham

So Far Gone – Drake

“It brings back memories [of] when it first came out. I still remember, like, getting in my 2008 Chevy Impala back in 2010, and that one of the first CD I began to play in my car. I still play it once in a while, but every time I play it, it reminds me about the first time I got my car.”

Franklin Brown

Nina Simone

“I like Nina Simone because she is just a classic and she has a really deep soulful voice. I listen to her a lot when I work.”
