From Static to Motion: SCAD Extra’s Logo Animation Workshop
Written and Photographed by Kayla Lybbert.
On Apr. 10, 2026, I was able to attend peer mentor Ananya Panchal’s SCAD Extra workshop for logo animation. It was not only beginner-friendly and expertly taught, but also exactly what I needed. SCAD Extra is an often overlooked resource that boasts countless workshops everyday, online and in-person, that are completely free for students. I didn’t have a full grasp of the scope of this program until I was in need of this particular seminar on logo animation.

Motion-media design has become an increasingly relevant art form. We see it everywhere now, and most importantly we expect it. As a film/tv major I never thought I would have to touch animation or graphics, yet countless class assignments and creative projects have proved this assumption wrong. The versatility of this media allows endless opportunities, including animating a logo.
Ananya’s workshop was an outstanding example of how beneficial mentor-led programs can be. At SCAD, a highly collaborative art school, connections like this are crucial. There’s something profound about the space given to students for them to pass on their knowledge. We often learn best from our peers because we understand and respect each other as creatives. Taking advantage of this resource will only improve our experience at SCAD.
I learned what I needed to animate my logo – and then some! There is something special about these personal interactions that SCAD Extra facilitates. Through this workshop, I learned about Adobe After Effects and the principles of animation in an easy-to-follow crash course. I took this newfound knowledge and created a logo sequence I am incredibly proud of for my brand, Kayla Lybbert Visuals. I didn’t know where to start, but this workshop helped me figure out how to animate my eye emblem to blink. I know that the skills I learned are applicable to numerous future situations.
The mission of these workshops is to help you succeed professionally, creatively, and even interpersonally. It’s almost guaranteed you’ll find a class that fits your needs! I urge you to scroll through the countless events and seminars on the SCAD Extra Website. Find a few that intrigue you. The knowledge you gain will stick with you forever.
