Glowfit, fitness in the dark

Students gathered on Saturday night in the Montgomery Hall courtyard for a night of fitness and glow sticks. Glowfit, which offered students either a Zumba or circuit training class, as well as pushup, planks, long jump and corn hole competitions, went on from 8-9 p.m. with class signups starting at 7:30. Each student signed up for the workouts or activities they were interested in before receiving their glow sticks and warming up. Prizes were given out to competition winners and music was played during the event to keep everyone pumped up and excited.

The event also highlighted the Bee Fit Wellness Challenge, which will begin winter quarter. The challenge will be a competition between five teams of 10 students working to motivate each other to reach their fitness goals. Signups for the challenge start during midterms of fall quarter and the challenge will run through all of winter, making it a great idea for New Year’s resolutions.

Fabio Bonacquisto, a third-year industrial design major from Tampa, Florida, is excited to get people to join the challenge.

“It is not a weight loss competition but a fitness challenge” Fabio reassured, with the focus being on personal goals instead of weigh-ins. The teams will motivate each other to keep up with their goals and workout sessions with assistance also coming from the challenge organizers and a nutritionist from Armstrong University. Information for the challenge will be available starting midterms and signups will run until the start of competition.
