HOW Design Live comes to Atlanta

The annual HOW Design Live Conference is renowned for bringing designers from across the country together to network and share knowledge and experience. SCAD is a sponsor of the 2016 conference, which will be held at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, GA from May 19 – May 23.

The proximity of this year’s conference provides an opportunity for SCAD students from both the Savannah and Atlanta campuses to attend. Conference registration is still available and the prices of all admission packages are significantly reduced for students and instructors. The HOW Design Live Exhibit Hall, featuring work from various designers and brands, will also be free of charge and open to the public on Saturday May 21 from 12 – 7:30 p.m.

Jorge Montero, professor of typography and poster design in SCAD’s graphic design department, said, “I think it’s a great opportunity for students to meet a lot of college level people who are also into graphic design, to attend all of those amazing lectures and the workshops, too.”

This year’s HOW Design Live programming, which includes networking events, lectures, panel discussions and workshops, is divided into seven categories: design and creativity, in-house management, vision and leadership, creative entrepreneurship, branding and packaging, interactive design and tools and resources.

The conference boasts a diverse line-up of speakers, including keynote speeches from Stefan Sagmeister and Chip Kidd. Sagmeister is the co-founder and partner of award-winning advertising and graphic design firm, Sagmeister and Walsh, while Kidd is a renowned, though somewhat controversial, writer, graphic designer and art director.

“I’m very excited about it…for sure you’re going to see your idols,” Montero said.
