Hello again! Welcome to “I’m Booked!” Here, I discuss and review some of my recent reads. Today, I will talk about the Pulitzer Prize-winning book “All the Light We Cannot See” by Anthony Doerr.

If you exclusively read happy romance books that make you want to sit on the beach and laugh, this is not the book for you. “All the Light We Cannot See” is a historical fiction book that takes place during World War II; it’s beautiful, intricate, melancholy and a little depressing. The story follows various characters and changes perspectives and locations each chapter. Personally, I don’t like to know much about a book before reading it. I like knowing the general gist or vibe, and I’m good. Because of this trait of mine, I won’t say much more about the stories portrayed in “All the Light We Cannot See.” Just know that they are detailed and magnificent and, at times, a little soul-crushing.

Doerr has a way of telling a story that keeps you interested throughout. Here’s a great quote from the book: “Time is a slippery thing: lose hold of it once, and its string might sail out of your hands forever.” If you need more incentive to read this book, know that Netflix is making a limited series based on the book that will release in 2023.

Although I haven’t read many historical fiction books in the past, I was genuinely impressed by “All the Light We Cannot See.” The multiple storylines, heartwarming characters and engaging writing kept me invested. I strongly suggest reading this book; just be aware of some graphic scenes and an intense plot. I’ll be back next week with another suggestion, but until then, I’m booked.
