In case you missed it: Artemis reading

By Ashley Jetty

The annual Artemis reading was held on May 12 at the Arnold Hall auditorium. Artemis is the yearly undergraduate student literary journal. The journal features nonfiction, fiction, poetry and screenplays written by students. This year marks the seventh volume of Artemis.

Before the reading took place at 6 p.m., the 132 Gallery from across the hall was stocked with snacks for those attending. People snacked on spring rolls, sesame seed chicken, nachos and dessert, with the choice of water or orange Tang to wash it all down. The reception started at 5 p.m. so everyone had time to mingle and find a seat in the beautiful air conditioned auditorium.

Before beginning, Professor Angela Merta, one of Artemis’ editors, gave a short introductory speech about the journal and the hard work of the students. Each reader had three to five minutes to read a selection of their written work. It was a wonderful opportunity listening to work by the authors. Everyone was powerful and expressive when reading.

Artemis submissions are taken all year long with the cut off being in the beginning of February. If you’re interested in submitting a piece for Artemis, a student can send their work through email to one of the editors.
