Katz hosts cancer research fundraiser outside O-House
While some people may reserve their Fridays for fun, relaxation or homework, Shelby Katz — a fourth-year fashion marketing major from Asheville, North Carolina — has something else in mind. She will be outside Oglethorpe House from noon to 5 p.m. collecting donations for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
“I really wanted to do something special before I graduate,” said Katz. “I’ve always loved St. Jude’s, and this is something really close to me. You see, I had a friend growing up who had cancer.”
Katz said she partnered with SCAD Residence Life and Housing to set up her donation table outside a student dorm in the hopes of getting SCAD students involved.
“I think a lot of people are going to come,” said Katz. “It’s a high traffic area.”
In addition to money donations, Katz said students are welcome to “put their artistic talents to good use” and decorate posters to put around the children’s hospital.
