News brief: Bicycle thefts on the rise

Police are reminding Savannah cyclists to keep a close watch on their bicycles. As the temperatures are rising, so are bicycle thefts. On average, five bicycles are reported stolen a week, and an increased number are being stolen while locked up. In the words of the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department: “A secure bike is out of sight! Take your bike INSIDE!”

SCAD students are encouraged to register their bikes with SCAD Security at their office, 345 Bull St. In the event of theft, bike registration increases the likelihood of a bike’s recovery.
