News brief: Savannah police respond to shooting on east side

On Aug. 16 shortly after 11 p.m., the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department (SCMPD) responded to a reported shooting on the 1100 block of E. 53rd Street.

The callers informed SCMPD that they heard several gunshots and moments later, a man who reported being shot multiple times outside his residence ran into the callers’ home. Emergency medical services responded and transported the victim to Memorial University Medical Center. The victim is in stable condition and expected to make a full recovery.

At the crime scene, SCMPD located several shell casings, a black hat, marijuana and a digital scale. The victim states he was in his residence when he heard a knock at the door. Upon answering, one of the suspects produced a gun and shot him. After pushing the suspect out of the way to run, the suspects chased and shot him several more times. The victim claims he did not know the suspects nor did they say anything to him.

The suspects are describes as three black males, 18 to 21-years-old, thin, wearing bandanas over their faces, and armed with pistols. Tipsters remain anonymous and qualify for a cash reward.
