News brief: SCAD alum to be on Project Runway

Julie Tierney, SCAD alum with a bachelor of fine arts in fashion design, will be seen on the upcoming season of “Project Runway,” premiering July 28 at 9 p.m. on Lifetime Television.

In the first show, Tierney will be one of 20 designers competing for the 16 available spots. To get a spot, each designer must make a case to the judges explaining why they should be on “Project Runway.” After making it through the initial round, the remaining 16 will move on to compete for the season.

Tierney is from Grand Junction, Colo., rode on the SCAD Equestrian team from 2008-2010 and represented SCAD at Fashion’s Night Out 2010 in New York City. She cites influences from snowboarding, skiing and her experiences as an equestrian. When asked why she will win, she responded “I have a strong style that has a point of view. It makes sense, and is not like everything else. I’m a competitor and used to competing in a variety of things.”
