News brief: Suspect charged in SCAD student slaying

A man was charged in the Oct. 28 murder of SCAD student Sean Giroir. Daniel Izzo, 19, plead guilty to the charge of voluntary manslaughter and the related charges of aggravated assault, armed robbery and burglary.

Izzo was originally charged with homicide, which comes with a mandatory life sentence, but he negotiated the charge down to manslaughter after agreeing to testify against his two co-defendants Alex Cowart and John A. Adams, both 21. Manslaughter is punishable by up to 20 years in prison. Izzo will not be sentenced until he officially testifies.

All three remain in the Chatham County Jail without bond.
