Opportunities to join the SCAD Student Leadership team in 2018-2019

By Kelsey Sanchez

This coming Monday, Jan. 29, applications for SCAD student leadership positions are due at 5 p.m.

Each position is unique and requires different skills and strengths; descriptions can viewed in detail here. All positions offer compensation in the forms of: hourly wages, stipends, complimentary room and meal plans (during the program) or complimentary meal plans and hourly wage (during the program).

Rising Star Assistant, Summer Seminars Assistant, Student Ambassador, Resident Assistant, Orientation Assistant, Jump Start Student Assistant, CAPP Assistant, CAPP Resident Assistant and International Orientation Assistant are positions currently open to SCAD students.

Beyond compensation, working in any of these positions allows a person to guide incoming students to a more successful beginning at SCAD. It provides an opportunity to network, develop leadership skills and strengthen communication skills.

If your resume is lacking an actual job, don’t fret. No previous work experience is needed for most positions, but positions are more likely to go to applicants with leadership experience. If you ran a club, were the captain of a sports team or worked as a volunteer director, be sure to include that in your resume and cover letter.

Chrissa Simones, orientation assistant and student director for SCAD in the Office of Student Involvement, says it’s easy.

“Maybe you don’t get the position your first shot, maybe you have no idea what you’re doing, just remember the people reviewing applicants and interviewing aren’t there to judge. They just want applicants who really want the job.”

If you feel like you don’t know everything for the position you want, that’s fine too. There are trainings for all student leadership positions prior to the first day.

Here is a breakdown of the process for the coming weeks:
