Savannah growth means new housing options for students and residents

Of Georgia’s coastal counties, Chatham has the fastest growing population. Within Chatham county, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, Savannah is the fastest growing of Chatham cities. SCAD is reflecting this growth, having increased its student body 26 percent since 2012.

With population booms come housing needs, and two properties are being developed to meet those needs. SCAD will be opening a second Victory Village Between Barnard and Montgomery street. The new SCAD dormitory will contain 355 units.

On 630 Indian St., nearly 300 multi-family, luxury apartments will fill a seven-story building, 10,000 square feet of leasable space and over 2,000 square feet of amenity space over the building’s parking structure. The Baxley, managed under Greystar Property, is projected to open in the beginning of next year.

Greystar Property Management current runs two Savannah apartment complexes: The Betty and The Blake. Spandrel Development Partners will develop the new complex and lease by Lee & Associates Charleston.

The Baxley will offer numerous amenities to occupants such as a media lounge, fitness center, a dog-walking area, gourmet test kitchen, an outdoor pool area including fire pits and grills and indoor parking that includes a charging station.

The Baxley will also be home to Savannah’s largest solar roof farm once completed. The Indian street location also provides tenants with proximity to major connectors in the area as well as walkability in downtown Savannah. Many people in the building will have views of the Talmadge Bridge and Savannah River.
