Savannah ranked in Expedia’s most artistic towns

For the second year, Expedia has compiled a list that they deem the most artistic towns, and this year Savannah has made the list. Savannah was included on the list due to the Jepson Center for the Arts, City Market, the SCAD Savannah Film Festival, the Savannah Music Festival, and the deFINE Art Festival, not to mention the art school.

In celebration, we’ve made a list of some artsy spots to visit.

The Paris Market

Located on Broughton Street, the Paris Market offers a wide arrangement of accessories for the bathroom, office, kitchen and wardrobe. One of Paris Market’s trademarks is their gorgeous window displays, which change every few months, and another is the experience of a Paris boutique. 22,000 Instagram followers seem to agree.

No visit to Savannah can be complete without making a stop at the Jepson Center for the Arts. Part of the Telfair Museums, the Jepson considers itself to be contemporary as well as high tech with its ArtZeum, an interactive gallery. Some of the famous works in the permanent collection include works by Chuck Close, Roy Lichtenstien and the Bird Girl statue.

Having recently celebrated its 20th year, the annual SCAD Savannah Film Festival is responsible for many hotels bookings at the end of October. From panels with Adobe Creative Cloud to screenings of potential Oscar winners, this film festival has it all figured out. SCAD honors multiple artists in the industry with a variety of awards, attracting more and more people to the festival each year.

Sulfur Studios

Sulfur Studios describes themselves as a “collaborative, community art space,” and they live up to it. Housing 27 private art studios, they offer professional art services including curation and installation in private homes and businesses. Every first Friday of the month, they have Open Studios that feature work from many local artists. They keep their promise of creating a community art space with their wide assortment of classes offered throughout the week, including weaving, drawing with ink, creating wool felt and silk painting.

The Wormhole

Located just around the corner from Sulfur Studios in the Starland Design District, The Wormhole has been operating for eight years and has grown into a concert venue with the feeling of a neighborhood bar. Over the years they’ve hosted Hand of Horses, Dave Chappelle and David Spade. Their goal is to bring more local live comedy to Savannah and has joined Comedy Planet, a monthly stand-up comedy series. Weekly, they host Open Mic, Trivia, a Jam Session, Karaoke and In-House Pool Tournament. All of these events are 18 and up, making it a great spot for college students.
