Savannah Tire Hockey Classic 2013

The UGA Ice Dogs faced off against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in the Savannah Civic Center on January 19 for the final game of the 2013 Savannah Tire Hockey Classic.

Neither of the teams scored any goals during the first period, but that didn’t stop the crowd from cheering and the band from playing.

During the second period, forward Kenny McCrary, a second-year student from Grayson, Ga., scored Georgia Tech’s first goal.  Another goal by forward Brandon Gaudet, a second-year student form Smyrna, Ga., quickly followed.

Right before the second period ended, Kyle Blankenship, a fourth-year student from Roswell, Ga., scored UGA’s first and only goal of the night.

Even though Georgia Tech’s forward Ryan Fritz, a fifth-year student from Alpharetta, Ga., was the only one to score a goal during the third period, there was still a lot of action on the ice.

When the final clock ran out Georgia Tech was still in the lead 3-1.

UGA may have lost the game, but they still ended up winning the championship trophy.  This marked the Ice Dogs’ sixth Thrasher Cup, their first since 2007.
