Savannah was full of late night cyclists on Saturday, Oct. 22 taking part in the Midnight Garden Ride.
Over five hundred cyclists geared up to hit the road that evening. Cyclists were encouraged to wear a costume and decorate their bikes. Participants were provided with an awesome baseball t-shirt. The ride started at Grayson Stadium and was a nine-mile loop followed up by an after-party known as the Good and Evil Party. The party featured a raffle, games, and a live music by The Mike + Ruthy Band.
The event is organized by the Savannah Bicycle Campaign (SBC); this is the eighth year of the organization putting on this public event. Behind all the action is SBC Chair, Caila Brown, she said, “It is a fun, family-friendly event that introduces people to the beauty of riding in Savannah under extremely safe conditions.”
The ride had a police escort, bike mechanics and medics along the route. Granger Eltringham, a Gainsville native and first-year architecture major at SCAD, stated that “It was a well-organized and family-friendly activity.”
The SBC required all cyclists to have front and rear lights along with a helmet in order to participate in the event to promote safe riding. The next cycling event is the Cranksgiving Ride on Saturday, Nov. 19. For more information, visit the SBC website.
