SCAD announces 2017 Film Fest award honorees

Tuesday, September 26, SCAD released its official list of 2017 SCAD Savannah Film Festival honorees. The festival, which celebrates “two decades of cinema excellence” with its 20th anniversary this year, will honor Salma Hayek Pinault with the Outstanding Achievement in Cinema Award, John Boyega with the Vanguard Award, Holly Hunter with the Icon Award, Robert Pattinson with the Maverick Award, Aaron Sorkin with the Outstanding Achievement in Directing Award and Sir Patrick Stewart with the Legends of Cinema Award.

The SCAD Savannah Film Festival hosts exclusive screenings, competition and feature films as well as panel discussions and workshops at SCAD’s historic theaters.

Additional honorees and festival programming will be announced at a later date. The festival, which will run October 28 through November 4, is the largest university-run film festival in the country. In its last 20 years, the festival has screened over 100 Oscar nominated films and honored over 75 actors, directors, producers, writers and filmmakers from across the globe.

Academy Award nominee Hayek Pinault is an Academy Award nominee, actress, producer and director for both film and television currently starring as the title role in “Beatriz at Dinner.” John Boyega is the recipient of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts 2016 Rising Star Award and will reprise his role as Finn in “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” later this year.

Holly Hunter is a prominent Academy and Emmy Award-nominated actress from both the stage and screen, appearing recently in “The Bick Sick.” Pattinson is an acclaimed English actor currently starring in “Good Time,” and recently appeared in “The Lost City of Z,” the true-life drama about British explorer Percival Fawcett.

Sorkin is an Academy Award-winning writer and renowned playwright, best known for “The Social Network,”  “A Few Good Men” and “Moneyball.” Stewart is one of the most acclaimed performers working in today’s industry, with multiple Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild, Emmy and Tony award nominations.
