April 25-28 is going to be one crazy time with Family and Alumni Weekend and SCAD’s Fortieth Anniversary happening all at the same time. That’s why it’s important to be prepared for all the events and to be able to keep their dates and times straight. Below are the events happening.

Friday, April 26 is the Foundations Studies Honors Show from noon to 2 p.m. showing off student work. Don’t forget check-in before in Wallin Hall. Later there’s the walking historic tour with the architectural professors from 1 to 4 p.m. The meeting spot for the walking tour is still unknown. Learning about Savannah’s buildings and history will be a valuable experience and different from all other tours within Savannah. Also, don’t forget the Event Check-In for Family Weekend at Haymans Hall from 4 to 6 p.m. You’ll get the event button which will get you into most of the family events going on this weekend.

Saturday and Sunday, you and your family can stop in at the SCAD Museum of Art free of charge and see Karl Lagerfeld’s fashion design and Alex Gardner’s first art exhibit.

As for food, many vendors will be at the Sidewalk Festival and on Sunday there will be a discounted brunch for registered families – those with the event button.

“Black Panther” movie night is the final Friday event and takes place at 8 p.m. in Trustees Theater. This will be open to both family and alumni to enjoy.

Saturday, the Sidewalk Arts Festival begins at 11 a.m. with judging at 4 p.m. There’ll be food, music and talented students working on their block of sidewalk to see. Have fun, visit friends and see what’s going on in Forsyth Park. This is one of our crowning events and excellent for students, families and alumni alike to enjoy.

As for the SCAD40 Anniversary events, there are two events happening: the SCAD40 Block Party, taking place Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. on Bull Street in Madison Square, and The Grand Opening of SCADStory from 8 to 10 p.m. in Poetter Hall. SCADStory is an immersive experience of our school’s history -one of the few of its kind. You will need tickets for the second event and alcohol is being served. The Block Party will have live music and artists demonstrating their techniques.

Many of the events mentioned above are also available for the Alumni to come and enjoy, but three events are just for the Alumni. On both Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. is the School of Building Arts Conference where the alumni can gain more knowledge, advice and friends. There are multiple locations for the conference so it will be a good idea to register and see the full schedule.

Then Saturday from 2 to 6:30 p.m. is the SCAD Athletics Student-Alumni Game and Reception. It’s there that our amazing lacrosse team will clash against past sports players in a battle of ability. To end with is the Sunday Bees of the ‘80s Reunion Brunch for the graduates of ‘81 to ‘89 happening 11 a.m to 3 p.m. and requires registration.
