The SCAD equestrian team came full gallop into the new year, having their first competition the very first weekend back from the holidays. The Equestrian Team traveled to the University of South Florida in Pinellas Park, Fla. to compete in the first horse show of 2013. Twelve other colleges took part in the University of South Florida IHSA.

The day started with all of the upper level classes.  Rider Caroline Ingalls was 2nd in her open flat class and third over-fences. Teammate Michael Kocher was 4th in open flat and 1st in his over fences class.

Intermediate flat rider Ryan Genn was first in his class, and Devon Walther was 3rd. Intermediate fences rider Lindsay Baker won her class and Molly McDougall was third. Lauren McGuire was 3rd in Novice over fences, while the Novice flat riders Kelly DiFiglia and Georgeen Michaelessi won their classes.

Captain Katherine Cameron was 2nd in her novice flat class. Daniel Goossens was the advanced walk/trot/canter class leader. His finish qualified him for the regional finals as well as moving him up a division into the novice flat. Johan Faulstich was 4th in beginner walk/trot/canter and Cecille Langley was 4th in her walk/trot class.

It was a great way to start the new year. SCAD Equestrian now has four firsts and one second in its first five competitions of the 2012-13 season.

The Bees will travel to Wellington, Fla. to take part in the College Preparatory Invitational on January 18-20. Go Bees!!
