Simon Rex received the Spotlight Award as the part of the gala screening of “Red Rocket.” The screening was followed by a Q&A session where Rex spoke about how he started filming during quarantine and received a phone call out of the blue from the director asking him to be on set that same week. After of their call, Rex drove three days to get there.
Rex also spoke about feeling that the film industry wasn’t paying attention to him anymore because of his past roles. So, he took the opportunity in “Red Rocket” to show the audience that he can take on more dramatic roles.
