Valentine’s Day lingerie on a budget

By Anna Geannopoulos

I’m not going to lie, for years I’ve tried to pretend that I abhor Valentine’s Day. I pretend I don’t notice it passing, begging significant others to not do anything for me—mostly because I don’t want to do anything for them. But then the day comes and I think, wait did I just miss out on an opportunity for free chocolate and a romantic evening?

Come the evening of Feb. 14, I begin to think I’ve made a terrible mistake.

So this year, I’ve been brainstorming. For those of you who don’t skip Valentine’s Day and want an easy and enjoyable way to make your night extra special, I have two words for you: garter belt.

Sure, you could try and find a non-cheesy, trashy or ill-fitting lingerie set and spend the fortune in the odd case that you do find one. Or, you could trick your special someone into thinking you did.

Most women already have a matching set of bra and panties or at least a black bra and black underwear. And, sure, perhaps your lover has already seen you in both, but add some thigh-high stockings (whatever style you prefer), a garter belt and some heels and they’ll think it’s really something extra special.

There are countless websites promising sexy lingerie with discreet shipping, but the last time I tried that my outfit arrived ripped and far too large for me. So this year, my Valentine’s fashion is going to appear like I’m pulling out all the stops—when really I spent a fraction of the price.

With the money I saved, I’ll be sure to buy myself some chocolates.
