What Do Your Laptop Stickers Say About You?

Laptop stickers are rarely random. Whether it’s a movie poster, a local artist’s logo, or a club emblem, each one is chosen and placed on purpose. This raises the question: what do your laptop stickers say about you? Do they speak to your interests, or do they speak to who you are as a person? As someone who loves collecting stickers for my laptop, I’d like to say that they speak to my interest in movies, games, and my major.

The majority of SCAD students are often expressive and outspoken on their personality and beliefs; they do not hold back. As creatives, we often explore many different avenues of creativity. After speaking with some of my friends, I realized no one is limiting their use of stickers. Stickers allow them to express not just their personality and interests, but also their support of local artists and the clubs they are involved in. Some of them even design their own to represent their own work and personal interests.

“I am from Washington state, so there’s a lot of the Pacific Northwest…”  says one laptop owner. “It’s funny since I only put them on when I came to Savannah…I want people to know where I am from and my roots. I think structure is something like organized chaos, I like to add a little bit of spunk in there”

I decided to interview some students I found with laptop stickers, to back up some of my previous statements. As the interviews continued, I heard the term “organized chaos” thrown around a lot, with it being the preferred look of their layout. The majority of the students I spoke to were graphic designers, and they often lay out their stickers in an organized fashion and almost always have something major-related.

Sometimes I will find someone in my class who has crowded their laptop lid with every single SCAD sticker in existence. Now you know they are a go-getter, as they will do anything to make whatever they put their mind to happen.

A SCAD student from San Francisco also has a lot of stickers related to where they are from. “I am very motivated with my intuition and see if they match my energy,” they said.

So in the end, what do our stickers say about us? Maybe some of them just show our interests: the movies we love, the games we play, and the clubs we’re in. But if you look closer, it says a lot more. Students with a lot of SCAD stickers show drive and commitment, stickers supporting local artists scream community, and a love to create.

Maybe stickers on our laptop lid won’t say everything about us, however, they express something about us which is honest and true.
