Can you talk about your process from inception to completion?

For the senior collection, my inspiration is scars. I was really interested in the shapes of the scars. I think every scar has unique shapes and stories and emotional experience behind it, so I thought to develop more based on that.

I tried to use different fabrics to create the scar shapes and I found a specific fabric called satin faced organza. It really makes shapes and also drapes really beautifully. So I used that fabric to start in my collections. And I think the main process of my senior collection is draping, because I didn’t use any patterns to do my works.

Can you talk about what the experience in general of being part of the fashion show has been like for you?

I think it’s exciting. But everyone is really talented. For me, I was selected, I think, maybe because my pieces are … better for show or something? I don’t know. I’m just excited to see it.

What inspires you in general for your designs and your art?

I’m also a painting minor, so sometimes I’m kind of interested in the paintings or arts, or like different periods of art.

Can you describe your aesthetic and what you’re trying to accomplish?

For the senior year I was trying to do the art couture thing, because that’s my dream career in the future. I’m trying to do more because most of my senior collection is hand sewing, but couture is the thing I wanted to achieve.

Can you talk about how you’re feeling about the show: if you’re nervous, or what’s going through your mind right now?

Just excited. Not nervous at all.

How do you think this experience is going to prepare you for your career or for the future?

I don’t know. Maybe because you’re selected, you could know more about shows and about what the process is like.

Did you have any professional experience before this?

You mean internships? Not really.

What’s your dream career?

My dream job is couture design. Maybe being a part of the Paris or Europe scene and having my own studio doing art couture.

When did you decide that you wanted to be a fashion designer?

I think it was during my middle school. I remember I watched this show on TV and I thought that was the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. Then I started to learn more and more about fashion.

Has there been any obstacles for you personally or anything you’ve had to overcome?

Yeah, of course there are hard things. Like from the start you need to have your inspirations and it should be exciting and make you think more.

Do you have any advice for future designers?

Just love this design career. I think that’s enough. Just love it and do it.
