News brief: Shooting victim treated and charged

Mario Jermaine Cook, 22, of the 1500 block of 38th Street was sent to Memorial University Medical Center to be treated for a wound to his scalp after two men opened fire on the car he was sitting in at about 7:20 p.m. on March 31. After being treated overnight, Cook was released and arrested on a probation violation.

Police arrived on 38th Street at Waters Avenue around 7:23 p.m. and were told Cook was waiting for a friend when two men walked up and began firing through the back windshield.

The two men ran to a nearby car and drove away. The shooting remains under investigation.
